In September 2019, young people around the world flooded streets and public squares to demand action on the climate crisis. Climate strikes occurred in all fifty states in the U.S. In New York City, over 100,000 students skipped school to protest government inaction on climate.
For a recent Lancet story, teenagers and young adults spoke with researchers about climate change. A majority said they were experiencing grief, anxiety and depression about the state of the planet, and about adults' refusal to take the climate crisis seriously. A majority also reported feeling betrayed by global leaders who, they said, were failing to immediately address the drivers of climate change.
